On Wednesday 15th November 2017, the Ombudsman, Melron Nicol-Wilson, continued with his Meet-the-People-Tour and Intake Clinic, by paying courtesy calls on heads of government institutions and traditional authorities in Pujehun District.

At 9:00 am, the Ombudsman visited the Local Unit Commander of the Pujehun Police Division, CSP Frank Alpha, and held sensitisation meeting with the police officers, on duty.

At 10:00 am, the Ombudsman met with the District Officer, Pujehun District, Mr. Andrew Kaipumoh, and the Office of National Security District Coordinator - Pujehun, Mr. Duraman Kargbo, and discussed his mandate with them.

At 10:30 am, the Ombudsman paid homage to        Paramount Chief Samuel Ansumana Saffa Gbonda, who is the Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs. Chief Gbonda was very appreciative of the visit and prayed for the Ombudsman to succeed in his endeavours.

At 11:00 am, the Ombudsman met with the Pujehun District Health Management Team, which comprises of the District Medical Officer - Dr. David Bornie, the District Health Sister, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Amara Stevens Ngagbai and other heads of the various units within the health department.

Later in the afternoon, the Ombudsman met with the Chairman and the Chief Administrator of the        Pujehun District Council, Sadiq Sillah and Edward Alpha, and held lengthy discussions with them on his mandate.

 At 3:00 pm, the Ombudsman visited the Correctional Centre in Pujehun. From the Correctional Centre, the Ombudsman visited the Pujehun Army Battalion and sensitised the officers and men there about his mandate. The soldiers were very happy to meet with the Ombudsman.  They raised several concerns which they wanted the Ombudsman to take up. The Ombudsman promised to take up the concerns of the soldiers with their authorities in Freetown.

On Thursday 16th November, 2017, the  Ombudsman, Melron Nicol-Wilson, explained his mandate to public officials and members of the   general public in Pujehun town.

The meeting was held at the Pujehun District Council Hall and was chaired by the Chairman of the Pujehun District Council, Sadiq Sillah. Participants included: Paramount Chiefs from various chiefdoms in Pujehun district, staff of the Pujehun District Council, heads of the various government agencies, representatives of civil society organisations and complainants.

 At the end of the discussions, the participants asked the Ombudsman several questions. Officials of the    Office of the Ombudsman received complaints from people in Pujehun town and promised to look into them within the shortest possible time.

From the Mayor's office, the Ombudsman went to the Kenema Government Hospital at 3:45pm, where he discussed his mandate with the District Medical Officer, Dr. Vandy, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Masuba.

At 2:15pm the Ombudsman also visited the 2nd Infantry Battalion of RSLAF, based at RTI in Kenema, and held discussions with the Officers and Men deployed there.

In the evening, from 7 pm to 8 pm, the Ombudsman and team held a live simulcast radio discussion       programme on SLBC 93.5 F.M and Gola Agriculture Radio 100.3 FM, to sensitise the general public in Kenema about the functions of the Office of the Ombudsman and other related matters.

 The Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Melron C. Nicol-Wilson Esq,  on Monday 27th November 2017, continued with his Meet-the-People-Tour in Kenema, in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone, by visiting the heads of government institutions and traditional authorities.

The Ombudsman first visited the Regent Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom, Chief Mohamed Benson Suwu, where he also met with the Town Chief of Kenema and other Chiefdom authorities at 10:42 am. The chiefs were very pleased with the visit of the         Ombudsman and promised that they would support his office and activities in Kenema.

At 11:23 am, the Ombudsman visited the Provincial Secretary - East, Mr. George Peniky, where he also met the Senior District Officer, Mr. Moses Gbetu, and discussed his mandate with them.

 In continuation of the ongoing outreach to the districts, a team from the Office of the Ombudsman visited Kailahun from Wednesday 29th November to Friday 1st December 2017. The purpose of the visit was to sensitise the public about the mandate of the Ombudsman and to receive complaints.

The mandate of the Office of the Ombudsman is, to receive and act on complaints against government ministries, department and agencies (MDAs), as well as, institutions of higher learning, relating to allegations of maladministration or wrongful conduct.

In the evening of Thursday 30th November 2017, the Ombudsman's team sensitised the people via live simulcast radio broadcast programme held on SLBC F.M 95.1 and Radio Moa F.M.105.5, both in Kailahun. 

On Friday 1st December 2017, the team held a Town Hall meeting at the Kailahun District Council Hall, to sensitise stakeholders and the public about the work of the Ombudsman. The meeting attracted participants from the Sierra Leone Police, Sierra Leone Correctional Center, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, SALWACO, Kailahun District Council Office, Kailahun Government Hospital, NASSIT, National Commission for Democracy, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Civil Society Organisations, Immigration, school administrators among others.

This meeting was followed by receipt of complaints and a visit to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kailahun.
