Internships 

The Office of the Ombudsman accepts applications for internship from university students in and outside Sierra Leone.

Duties and Responsibilities of Interns

• Support the legal and mediation services of the Office 

• Support to the outreach activities of the Office

• Support the preparation and publication of reports 

Competencies

• Demonstrate understanding of law, conflict resolution, advocacy and the functions of the Office of the Ombudsman. 

• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and integrity. 

• Ability to work with others to achieve results and meet deadlines.

• Excellent oral and written skills in English Language 

• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft computer applications 

Eligibility

• Applicant must be enrolled in a recognised university in or outside Sierra Leone

• Applicant must be an undergraduate or post graduate candidate in any of the following fields of study: 

1. Law

2. Peace and Conflict Studies, 

3. Political Science, 

4. Sociology and Social Work

5. Mass Communications

Conditions

• Interns are not financially remunerated by the Office;

• The Office does not bear any cost related to travelling, accommodation and food for interns

• The Office accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship.

Documents Needed

• Copy of updated CV;

• Official letter from the university confirming enrollment in an undergraduate or post graduate programme;

• Copy of progress report or transcripts;

• Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member of the your university,  who is fully acquainted with the student's performance;

• A brief cover letter setting out the reasons why he/she is seeking an internship with the Office and what is expected from the experience.

 

 

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME IS NOT TO LEAD TO EMPLOYMENT WITH THE OFFICE, BUT TO COMPLEMENT THE STUDIES OF THE INTERN, THUS PROVIDING JOB EXPERIENCE.

APPLICANTS WOULD HAVE TO SIGN A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT/OATH BEFORE THEY START INTERNSHIP WITH THE OFFICE.
