In continuation of the ongoing outreach to the districts, a team from the Office of the Ombudsman visited Kailahun from Wednesday 29th November to Friday 1st December 2017. The purpose of the visit was to sensitise the public about the mandate of the Ombudsman and to receive complaints.
The mandate of the Office of the Ombudsman is, to receive and act on complaints against government ministries, department and agencies (MDAs), as well as, institutions of higher learning, relating to allegations of maladministration or wrongful conduct.
In the evening of Thursday 30th November 2017, the Ombudsman's team sensitised the people via live simulcast radio broadcast programme held on SLBC F.M 95.1 and Radio Moa F.M.105.5, both in Kailahun.
On Friday 1st December 2017, the team held a Town Hall meeting at the Kailahun District Council Hall, to sensitise stakeholders and the public about the work of the Ombudsman. The meeting attracted participants from the Sierra Leone Police, Sierra Leone Correctional Center, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, SALWACO, Kailahun District Council Office, Kailahun Government Hospital, NASSIT, National Commission for Democracy, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Civil Society Organisations, Immigration, school administrators among others.
This meeting was followed by receipt of complaints and a visit to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kailahun.
