The Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Melron C. Nicol-Wilson Esq, on Monday 27th November 2017, continued with his Meet-the-People-Tour in Kenema, in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone, by visiting the heads of government institutions and traditional authorities.
The Ombudsman first visited the Regent Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom, Chief Mohamed Benson Suwu, where he also met with the Town Chief of Kenema and other Chiefdom authorities at 10:42 am. The chiefs were very pleased with the visit of the Ombudsman and promised that they would support his office and activities in Kenema.
At 11:23 am, the Ombudsman visited the Provincial Secretary - East, Mr. George Peniky, where he also met the Senior District Officer, Mr. Moses Gbetu, and discussed his mandate with them.
From the Provincial Secretary's Office, the Ombudsman visited the Chairman of Kenema District Council, Dr. Senesie Mansaray, at 13:07pm and discussed his mandate with him.
In the afternoon, the Ombudsman met with the Regional Police Commander, AIG Alfred Karrow Kamara, and other commanders of various units within the Sierra Leone Police in the Eastern Region and discussed his mandate with them.
From the Police, the Ombudsman visited the Mayor of the Kenema City Council, His Worship Joseph Samba Keifala, at 3:00 pm, where he also met with the Councilors and the Chief Administrator of the Kenema City Council.
From the Mayor's office, the Ombudsman went to the Kenema Government Hospital at 3:45pm, where he discussed his mandate with the District Medical
Officer, Dr. Vandy, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Masuba.
At 2:15pm the Ombudsman also visited the
2nd Infantry Battalion of RSLAF, based at RTI in Kenema, and held discussions with the Officers and Men deployed there.
In the evening, from 7 pm to 8 pm, the Ombudsman and team held a live simulcast radio discussion programme on SLBC 93.5 F.M and Gola Agriculture Radio 100.3 FM, to sensitise the general public in Kenema about the functions of the Office of the
Ombudsman and other related matters.
