As he further his knowledge sharing, sensitization and relationship drive on the mandate functions of his the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit to the Principal of the Freetown Polytechnic at Jui, in Freetown.
Ombudsman Tejan, said that as an institution that handles complaint from members of institutions of higher learning or education, he is at the institution to establish a good working relationship with them. He notes that the Ombudsman’s office does not work in isolation and without the cooperation and participation of members of the public he will not be able to fulfil his mandate. He reveled that this sensitization drive is to strengthen the knowledge that the staff of the Institution already has about the Office. He spoke about the creation of his Office as stated in the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No.6 of 1991 and the Ombudsman Act No.2 of 1997 and further notes that the Office uses mediation, negotiation and other means that are proper, effective and fair, to resolve complaints.
Expressing appreciation to the Ombudsman and Team for the visit, the Principal of the Freetown Polytechnic, Professor Samba Moriba, thanked the team for the visit. He expressed that he has had a cordial relationship with the Ombudsman’s office and that since his assumption of office, only one dismissal has been carried out and inform the Ombudsman that he is working with other staff of his institution to respect the Human Rights of everyone. He further encouraged the Ombudsman that whilst he is promoting the rights of staff he should also remind them that rights comes with responsibility. He pledged his Institutions’ continued cooperation with the office of the Ombudsman.
OMBUDSMAN ENGAGES THE EGYPTIAN AMBASSADOR TO SIERRA LEONE
In a bid to strengthen bilateral working relationship with the Diplomatic Community, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit on the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency, and Ambassador Sheriff A. Rifaat at his Office in Freetown.
Welcoming the Ombudsman and Team, Ambassador Rifaat, stated that the Arab Republic of Egypt, has had a good working relationship with Sierra Leone for over 60 years. He maintained that the embassy has been supporting Sierra Leone with capacity building in various sectors.
OMBUDSMAN ENGAGES MINISTER OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND TEAM
As he continues his sensitization and collaboration building drive, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah, Esq. paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Social Welfare and her Management Team at her New England Office in the Freetown.
Making a presentation to the Minister and the team, the Ombudsman mentioned that his Mandate covers Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, together with Institutions of Higher Learning and or education.
He further noted that he is embarking on a public awareness and sensitization drive to explain his mandate, because the impact of the office was not felt by members of the public or civil service. He defined injustice and maladministration and also explained the methods used in resolving complaints which are negotiations and mediation and other methods that are fair, effective and efficient.
Thanking the Ombudsman and Team, the Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Kormaty noted that the Ombudsman's office has a huge mandate, but those functions are not known by many people including Ministers and Public officials. She encouraged the Ombudsman to do more in sensitizing the public on his mandate. She said that with the required constitutional backing the Ombudsman should ensure that even People Living With Disabilities (PLWD), also benefit from the services his office offers. She pledged her Ministry’s continued support to the office of the ombudsman.

OMBUDSMAN INTERACTS WITH IRISH AMBASSADOR
In his drive to build bilateral working relationship with Diplomatic Missions, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit on the Irish Ambassador Aidan Fitzpatrick at his Office, off Spur Road.
The Ombudsman explained his mandates and function and also notes that his Office also contributes towards good governance and accountability by looking into the administrative actions of government officials. He mentioned that his mandate aligns with his Excellency Manifesto promise of revamping the Public Service architecture.
He stated that due to the funding gap, he is engaging Diplomatic Missions to support the work of his Office. He noted that capacity building and institutional support are needed to ensure that the work of the Ombudsman moves further and revealed that the office usually organizes Intake Clinics to areas where the office has no presence and move into hard to reach areas to receive complaints from people who have suffered injustice as a result of maladministration
Responding, the Irish Ambassador, stated that his Institution focuses on food and nutrition, democracy, elections, good governance and health. He further noted that the embassy’s focus is on effective Service delivery to the poor. He further enquired about the working relationship between the Ombudsman's Office and the ordinary people. He maintained that the Office of the Ombudsman is one of the transitional offices created after the war, and encouraged the Ombudsman to continue the good work he's doing for the people of Sierra Leone.
