   Ombudsman and Irish Ambassador

In his drive to build bilateral working relationship with Diplomatic Missions, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone              Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit on the Irish Ambassador Aidan Fitzpatrick at his Office, off Spur Road.

The Ombudsman explained his mandates and function and also notes that his Office also contributes towards good governance and accountability by looking into the administrative actions of government officials. He mentioned that his mandate aligns with his Excellency Manifesto promise of revamping the Public Service architecture.

He stated that due to the funding gap, he is engaging Diplomatic Missions to support the work of his Office. He noted that capacity building and institutional support are needed to ensure that the work of the Ombudsman moves further and revealed that the office usually organizes Intake Clinics to areas where the office has no presence and move into hard to reach areas to receive complaints from people who have suffered injustice as a result of maladministration

Responding, the Irish Ambassador, stated that his Institution focuses on food and nutrition, democracy, elections, good governance and health. He further noted that the embassy’s focus is on effective Service delivery to the poor. He further enquired about the working relationship between the Ombudsman's Office and the ordinary people. He maintained that the Office of the Ombudsman is one of the transitional offices created after the war, and encouraged the Ombudsman to continue the good work he's doing for the people of Sierra Leone.
