OMBUDSMAN ENGAGES THE CHIEF LIBRARIAN AND MANAGEMENT TEAM OF THE SIERRA LEONE LIBRARY BOARD
The Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone Library Board in continuation of his sensitization and cordial working relationship drive to MDAs. He made a visit to the Chief Librarian Mr. Musa Mansaray and his Management Team at their Offices at Rokel Street.
In his presentation the Ombudsman explained that the mandate and functions of his Office is created by Section 146 subsection 2 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No.6 of 1991. He further noted that the issue of injustice and maladministration are endemic in the Civil and Public Service. He further states that his Office deals purely with Administrative Accountability and that it also uses Alternative Redress mechanism to address complaints. He revealed that injustice includes hardship, detriment or grievance occasioned by any inequitable treatment whether legally imposed or otherwise. He also noted that maladministration includes bias, unfair treatment, harshness or general high-handedness and losing or failing to reply to correspondence from any member of the public.
In his appreciation for the visit, the Chief Librarian Mr. Musa Mansaray thanked the Ombudsman and Team for the knowledge shared with his Institution. He noted that they have established a Human Resources Office that looks into issues of staff welfare. He stated that the Sierra Leone Library Board has been placed under the supervision of the MBSSE. He further thanked the Ombudsman and pledged his Institution's full support to the work of the Ombudsman.
