OMBUDSMAN PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE CHAIRPERSON AND MANAGEMENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF SIERRA LEONE
In continuation of his sensitization and partnership building campaign s, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone Madam Patricia Nasu Ndanema and her Management Team at their Offices at Tower Hill.
The Ombudsman expounded on his mandate and functions. He spoke about the creation of his Office as required by the Constitution of Sierra Leone and the Ombudsman's Act which stipulates the functions of the Ombudsman. He further noted that one of his leadership strategies is to develop a cordial working relationship with all the MDAs in order to build a collaborative approach in handling issues of administrative injustices in the Civil/ Public Service.
He noted that the Ombudsman's Office will have referral partnership agreement/MOU with the HRCSL so that it will be easier for the two Institutions to collaborate in clearing the clogs in the Public Service to ensure effective service delivery. He further noted that the two Institutions employ Alternative Dispute and Redress Mechanisms in doing their work especially in the promotion of Human Rights and to ensure that administrative justice continue to be promoted to enhance effective service delivery. He stated that his mandate aligns with the President's manifesto promise of revamping the Public Service architecture, whereby the best minds can be attracted or retained for effective service delivery to the people of Sierra Leone. The Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, Madam Patricia Nasu Ndanema thanked the Ombudsman and Team for the excellent presentation. She stated that the HRCSL has had a good working relationship with the Ombudsman's Office and vows that they will continue to build on that relationship to enhance effective service delivery. Members of the management team made salient contributions during the meeting.
