OMBUDSMAN PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND MANAGEMENT OF THE NATIONAL DRUG LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.
In continuation of his courtesy visits and sensitization drive, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Andrew Jaiah Kaikai at his Office at Walpole Street.
The Ombudsman explained his mandate and functions of his office which includes to investigate any administrative act of a prescribed authority in respect of which a complaint is made to him by any person who claims to have suffered injustice as a result of maladministration.
He revealed that prescribed authority are the Public Service/Civil Service, the Police, the Military, Fire Force and the Correctional Service. He stated that injustices and maladministration are prevalent in the Civil/Public Service. Hence he is engaging the Heads of all the MDAs to ensure that they are aware of his Office and its mandate.
He further explained that his office should be seen as a grievance redress Institution that positively impacts on service delivery to the public.
He noted that the NDLEA is an Agency that is charged with enforcing the law on drugs and in the discharge of such, may have some implications on the public which they may see as injustice and such will be brought to the attention of the Ombudsman.
Responding, the Executive Director NDLEA, stated that they are aware of the work of the Ombudsman and the role they are playing in promoting administrative justice in the country. He maintained that his office has been working closely to ensure that their staff members are treated according to their terms and conditions of Service. He stated that they are currently battling the kush epidemic that is plaguing the Country. He expressed concerns about the alarming rate at which the youthful population are being wiped out due to drug abuse. He pledged his Institution’s continued collaboration with the Ombudsman’s Office.
