OMBUDSMAN ENGAGES THE DIRECTOR AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT OF THE FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE UNIT
In continuation of his courtesy visit and sensitization drive, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy call on the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit at their Offices in Tengbeh Town.
Welcoming the Ombudsman and Team, the Director FIU David Bobor, stated that the FIU is taking the lead in coordinating the fight against money laundering and its financing.
He stated that the FIU is an administrative model as they are not given all the complementary powers of law enforcement but they collate intelligence for law enforcement to assist them in investigating predicate crimes and their derivative offenses.
Making a presentation on the mandate and functions of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Ombudsman stated that the visit is primarily to sensitize them on his mandate and also build a cordial working relationship.
He stated that his office is mandated to investigate issues of injustices that are occasioned as a result of maladministration. He further stated that his Office investigates actions or omissions of prescribed Authority whose administrative actions/decisions may have caused detriment or hardship on employees or members of the public.
He noted that injustices or maladministration are endemic in the Civil and Public Service. He further defined injustice and maladministration and also highlighted bias, high-handedness and abuse of office as some of the issues referred to as maladministration.
