OMBUDSMAN TO EMBARK ON MEET THE PEOPLE TOURS AND INTAKE CLINICS IN THE PROVINCES

From Sunday 5th to Friday 24th November, 2017, the Ombudsman Melron Nicol-Wilson Esq will travel to various district headquarter towns in the provinces. The purpose of the tours is to give opportunities to the people in the provinces to meet, discuss and make complaints directly to the Ombudsman.

Whilst in the provinces, the Ombudsman will undertake the following activities: 

i.             MEETINGS WITH STAKEHOLDERS 

The Ombudsman will make courtesy visits to the following stakeholders in each of the districts in order to enhance cooperation with his Office:

·         The Resident Minister and the Provincial Secretary, 

·         The District Officer, 

·         The Mayor and the Chairman of the local councils, 

·         The Paramount Chief, 

·         The Resident Judge and the Resident Magistrate,

·         The Regional and the Local Unit Police Commanders, 

·         The District Medical Officer and the medical Superintendent, and 

·         The Brigade and the Battalion Commanders of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

ii.            VISIT TO CORRECTIONAL CENTRES

The Ombudsman will visit the correctional centres in each district in order to sensitise the officers and inmates about their rights to make complaints and have their grievances resolved. The inmates will have the opportunity to complain directly to the ombudsman.

iii.           OMBUDSMAN’S TOWN HALL MEETINGS

The Ombudsman will also hold town hall meetings with members of the general public in each district to sensitise them about the functions of the Office of the Ombudsman, and how they could make complaints to the Office.

iv.           RADIO DISCUSSION PROGRAMMES

The Ombudsman will further undertake public education on the community radios in each district, wherein members of the public will have the opportunity to make phone calls during the live radio discussion sessions and ask questions or make comments.

DATES THE OMBUDSMAN WILL BE IN THE VARIOUS DISTRICT HEADQUARTER TOWNS

The Ombudsman and team will be in the following towns on the following dates:  

·         Makeni - Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th November, 2017; 

·         Port Loko - Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th November, 2017; 

·         Bo - Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th November, 2017; 

·         Pujehun - Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th November 2017; 

·         Kenema - Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st November, 2017; and 

·         Kailahun - Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 24th November 2017.
