*NEW OMBUDSMAN TO HOLD FIRST NEWS CONFERENCE AND LAUNCH 100 DAYS PLAN OF ACTION ON FRIDAY MAY 26*
FREETOWN (May 24, 2017) –
This is to inform the media and general public that the newly appointed Ombudsman of the republic of Sierra Leone, Mr. Melron Nicol-Wilson, will be holding his first press conference since assuming office, and launch a 100 Days Plan of Action. The news conference is scheduled for Friday, May 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the conference room of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) at Campbell Street, Freetown.
The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Mr. Kelvin Lewis will chair the News Conference.
The Ombudsman will present the 100 Days Plan of Action and provide updates on the challenges and accomplishments of the Office of the Ombudsman, as well as the recent developments in the ongoing investigations.
The 100 Days Plan of Action is a short term roadmap for the Office of the Ombudsman and focuses on enhancing public confidence in the institution, promoting administrative justice, accountability, fairness and bringing a new direction to the Office of Ombudsman.
The 100 Days Plan of Action seeks to give enforcement POWER to the Ombudsman to be able to demand justice for the people, safeguard human rights and EMPOWER the Office to be able to DELIVER its mandate.
The 100 Days Plan of Action was developed based on recommendations received from various stakeholders, experts, and a nationwide consultation during an institutional assessment and familiarisation visits conducted by Mr. Melron Nicol-Wilson to the Ombudsman's regional offices in Kenema, Bo and Makeni.
