OMBUDSMAN PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE AND THE CABINET SECRETARIAT

Ombudsman and Head of Civil Service and Cabinet Secretariat

In a bid to galvanize and coordinate the work of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Civil Service and Cabinet Secretariat, Mr. John Sumaila and his Management Team at their Offices at Tower Hill.

Briefing the Head of Civil Service, the Ombudsman stated that he is on a courtesy call and sensitization drive to inform MDAs about his mandate and functions. He further stated that he is continuing to raise awareness about his office as a whole generation of Civil Servants do not know about the Office of the Ombudsman nor do they know what the office does. He noted that his office plays a pivotal role in ensuring that administrative justice is delivered to all.

He maintained that he is setting the stage for collaboration with other MDA's to ensure that the endemic nature of injustice in the Civil Service becomes a thing of the past. He revealed that the office uses methods such as negotiation and mediation to resolve complaints.

Responding, the Head of Civil Service, Mr. John Sumaila stated that the visit of the Ombudsman is one that also bring peace in an environment. He noted that with the Institutional and legal frameworks, there is need for massive sensitization of the public especially Civil Servants about the work the Office does. He further noted that he has been receiving complaints from members of the public who may have been aggrieved and he channeling those complaints to the necessary Institutions. He pledged the Secretariat's continued support to the Office of the Ombudsman.
