In a bid to strengthen cordial relationship with Institutions of Higher Learning, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Ahmed Tejan Israel Jah, Esq. has paid a Courtesy Call on the Vice Chancellor and Principal and Heads of Departments of the Milton Margai Technical University, at their Goderich Campus.
The Ombudsman explained his mandate and functions as enshrined in the Ombudsman Act of 1997, which states that the function of the Ombudsman shall “include the investigation of any action taken or omitted to be taken by and on behalf of any statutory corporation or Institutions of higher learning or education, set up entirely or partly out of public funds”. He stressed the need for members of the public to use his office as grievance redress mechanism/ Institution. He expressed his office’s willingness to work with other Institutions to ensure that Institutions and their administrators are fully aware of the Mandate of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Expressing thanks and appreciation to the Ombudsman and Team, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Milton Margai Technical University Prof. Philip John Kanu, stated that the MMTU is appreciative of the fact that the Ombudsman’s Office recognises the role played by the University in the Country, whilst maintaining that they are doing everything possible to ensure that an injustice and maladministration do not occur in the Institution. He maintained that they are using the harmonized conditions of Service of Polytechnic, in the discharge of their administrative functions and notes that it contains redress mechanisms including the necessary steps to follow in seeking redress. He pledged his Institution’s continued collaboration with the ombudsman.
