OMBUDSMAN ENGAGES THE EGYPTIAN AMBASSADOR TO SIERRA LEONE

Ombudsman Egyptian Embassador and Staff of the Office the Ombudsman

In a bid to strengthen bilateral working relationship with the Diplomatic Community, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has paid a courtesy visit on the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency, and Ambassador Sheriff A. Rifaat at his Office in Freetown.

Welcoming the Ombudsman and Team, Ambassador Rifaat, stated that the Arab Republic of Egypt, has had a good working relationship with Sierra Leone for over 60 years. He maintained that the embassy has been supporting Sierra Leone with capacity building in various sectors.

He noted that there are many aspect of cooperation between Sierra Leone and Egypt and they are working on increasing these cooperation as they are here to help. Responding, the Egyptian Ambassador, Ombudsman Tejan states that his Office is a Public Complaint Institution that investigate complaints that comes from either a member of the public who may have been aggrieved by the administrative action of either government agencies or personnels or Institutions of higher learning. He noted that the Office investigates such complaints to have an amicable resolution. He revealed that the office uses mediations, negotiations and other means that are effective, quick and fair and further explained the terms: injustice and maladministration. He further noted that many civil servants and public servants suffer in silence due to the lack of knowledge about the Ombudsman’s office.

Thanking the Ombudsman and Team, Ambassador Sherif A. Rifaat, stated that the Embassy works closely with other human rights Institutions in Sierra Leone giving training to their personnel to develop their institutions. He further pledge the Embassy’s support to the Office of the Ombudsman.
