Labour Minister

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah, Esq. and Team have paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Abdul Raman Swaray at his office at New England.

The Ombudsman said that the visit was also a sensitization drive to raise public awareness, among Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, on the mandate and scope of the Office of the Ombudsman. He stated that his Office’s key mandate is to investigate complaints brought against government officials in MDAs, institutions of Higher Learning, institutions fully or partly funded by funded by Government.

He acknowledged the link between his Office and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and their collective responsibility in resolving administrative disputes. The Ombudsman stated that they can also address complaints by mediation and referrals to various institutions, but industrial disputes complaints are mostly referred to the Labour Ministry.

In response, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, thanked the Ombudsman and his team for the visit, and applauded the Office for recognizing the synergy between the two institutions

He assured the Ombudsman that his Institution is ready to work collectively w with the Ombudsman to ensure that workplaces are free of injustice occasioned by Maladministration.
