The Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah, Esq. has paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Monument and Relics Commission, Joseph Kaifala and Team at their Office at Campbell Street.
Briefing the Chairman, the Ombudsman said that the visit is to sensitise the Commission about the mandate of the Ombudsman and also to familiarize with them. He stated that the Ombudsman’s Office was created by section 146 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and the Ombudsman Act of 1997 and that the main function of the Office is to investigate the actions or inactions of Ministries, Department and Agencies that may cause injustice occasioning Maladministration.

He noted that bias, unfair discrimination, harshness or general high-handedness, using powers for wrong purpose are all referred to as maladministration under the Ombudsman Act.

Responding to the Ombudsman and Team, the Chairman stated that he is happy to receive the team as this is a great opportunity for them as an office. He noted that he always emphasize the need for people to respect to respect each other wherever they find themselves.

 He noted that the fundamental rights of every individual is of utmost concern to him. He stated that he always ensures that the rights of his staff are always respected ad treated with dignity. He thanked the team and accepted the request of the Ombudsman to engage his staff in the future.
